Colonel Jamie Cade entered the Army in June
1979. A graduate ofRoyalRoadsMilitaryCollegewith a Bachelor Degree in Military and
Strategic Studies, he joined Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) in Calgary, May 1984.
His first Regimental tour (1984–87) was as a
Troop Leader with Reconnaissance Squadron and Tank Troop Leader with the Royal
Canadian Dragoons inGermany. His second Regimental tour inCalgarysaw service with Headquarters and C
Squadrons, and as the Regimental Operations Officer. From 1995 to 1997 he was
Officer Commanding Reconnaissance Squadron and A Squadron. In 1997, A Squadron
deployed toBosniawith the Second Battalion Princess
Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry as part of the first contingent of the NATO
“SFOR” mission.
Colonel Cade's Extra Regimental Employments
(ERE) have included tours at the Armour School in Gagetown, New Brunswick
(1987–89), French language training in Valcartier, Quebec (1989-90), Land Force
Western Area Headquarters in Edmonton (1993-95) and three tours in National
Defence Headquarters, Ottawa. At NDHQ he served as the Bosnia Desk Officer
(1997-99), Director Land Force Readiness 3 (G3 Operations and Plans for the
Army [2000-2001]) and J3 International 1 as part of the Deputy Chief of Defence
Staff (2001-2002). In 2000, Jamie Cade graduated from the Australian Army
Command andStaffCollegeinQueenscliffe,Australia, receiving a Masters of Defence Studies from
theUniversityofCanberra.
The highlight of Colonel Cade's career was
his appointment as Commanding Officer Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians)
from 2002 to 2004. During his tenure, the Regiment deployed two squadrons toBosnia, a squadron toAfghanistanand deployed toBritish Columbiato fight the forest fires of 2003. In June
2005, he was promoted Colonel and assumed the position of Director Land Force
Readiness (Army G3), responsible for coordinating all aspects of Army force
generation for overseas and domestic operations.
Colonel Cade deployed as the Deputy
Commander, Joint Task ForceAfghanistanfrom May 2008 until February 2009 and was
awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.In
June 2009, he assumed the appointment of Commandant Canadian Land Force Command
andStaffCollegeinKingston,Ontario.
Colonel Cade also holds a secondary
appointment as Director of Armour.
